Email Spam Filtering Improvements

 Wednesday, July 24, 2024

We're happy to announce that, after extensive testing to confirm that spam is being filtered correctly and legitimate emails are not being blocked, we've launched our new spam filtering solution!

Our new spam filtering solution stands out with its comprehensive, on-premise email filtering capabilities. Unlike cloud-based solutions like SpamExperts, our solution is directly integrated directly with the control panel, giving our support team, resellers and users advanced control and immediate response times for spam filtering and virus protection.

While we have been pleased with the effectiveness of SpamExperts at keeping unwanted email out of users' inboxes, there are a few drawbacks. Chief among these is the way SpamExperts notifies users about email that has been quarantined by the spam filter.

SpamExperts notifies users about quarantined emails through periodic Spampanel Reports, which contain a summary of the emails that have been caught by the spam filter and placed in quarantine. Users can then review the digest and decide whether to release any legitimate emails mistakenly identified as spam.

There are a number of potential problems with Quarantine Notifications:

  • Notification Frequency: The frequency of notifications can be a double-edged sword. Too frequent notifications can overwhelm users, while infrequent notifications might delay users from noticing and recovering important emails.
  • User Confusion: Users might find it confusing to navigate and manage the quarantine interface, especially if they are not tech-savvy. This can lead to important emails being overlooked.
  • Missed Notifications: If users ignore or miss these quarantine notifications, they might never realize that important emails have been quarantined.
  • Security Risks: Quarantine notifications themselves could be targeted by phishing attacks, where malicious actors mimic these notifications to trick users into releasing harmful emails.

With our new spam filtering solution, spam is now detected automatically and moved to the "Junk" folder, in a process that is familiar to all email users, as it mirrors the workflow of the free email services like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.

Users can mark emails as "Junk" or "Not Junk" directly from any email client on desktop, mobile or web-based clients, which helps train the filtering system over time.

  • Mark as Junk or drag and drop emails from your Inbox to the Junk / Spam folder
  • Mark as Not Junk or drag and drop email from Junk / Spam to the Inbox

Our new spam filtering solution is available today, protecting both incoming and outgoing email, on all hosting accounts. If you're already a client, enjoy unparalleled ease-of-use, protection and performance. If you're interested in learning more about our spam filtering solution, just get in touch!
