Continuity
What keeps running, and who looks after your account, if the person behind WebOps Hosting is unavailable.
WebOps Hosting is run by Ryan Davis. Clients and vendor questionnaires ask what happens to their websites and email if he is unavailable. This page is our standing answer, and we update it here whenever something changes.
What keeps running without anyone
The websites and email we host run on servers in commercial data centers. They keep working whether or not anyone is at a keyboard.
- Websites and email. Hosted sites keep serving visitors, and mail keeps arriving and sending.
- Backups. On our managed hosting plans, websites, databases and mailboxes are backed up automatically every day to storage kept separate from the servers they run on. Cloud VPS backups follow the plan you chose.
- Monitoring. An outside service checks the websites we manage around the clock and raises an alert if one stops responding.
- Security patches. The servers we manage receive security patches automatically from our security vendors, including operating system patches that apply without a restart.
- Prepaid services. Hosting and domains stay active through the end of the period you have already paid for, subject to our terms.
What needs a person
Some work does need someone:
- Renewing domains and hosting when they come due.
- Answering support requests and resetting passwords.
- Applying WordPress core, plugin and theme updates on plans that include managed updates.
- Reviewing alerts, and restoring from backup when something breaks.
Reaching your services without us
Day to day, your own logins are enough.
- Email. If we host your email, any standard mail app, or webmail in a browser, reaches your mailbox with your email address and password. Our email setup guide has the settings. Keep mailbox passwords in a password manager inside your own organization.
- WordPress. If we host or maintain your WordPress site, anyone with an administrator login to your WordPress site can manage its content without us. Keep at least one administrator login inside your organization.
Who picks it up
WebOps Hosting is putting a successor agreement in place. Under it, a named party will hold documented access to our servers, backups, domain registrar and billing, so they can keep your services running and answer your requests. Clients will be told when the agreement is signed and who holds it.
If Ryan becomes unable to work, the successor will notify you within 5 business days. The notice will say who is now looking after your account and how to reach them.
Moving elsewhere
Your website, email and domain belong to you. If you choose to move to another provider while your account is in good standing, you will receive a copy of the website and email we host for you, and any domain registered through us will be transferred to you.
What this does not cover
- Your computers, phones and office network. Those are yours, or your IT provider’s, to look after.
- Email stored only on a computer, in local folders that never reach the server. We cannot back those up or restore them.
- Services we do not provide, such as social media accounts.
- Any response time beyond what your plan, our Support Policy and our Service Level Agreement already include.
Getting in touch
Open a support ticket from the client area, or write to us through the contact page. Questions about this page, including vendor security questionnaires, go the same way.
