WPCodeBox is a powerful WordPress code-snippets plugin built for developers who want cloud sync, advanced syntax features, and live CSS preview without the limitations of free snippet plugins. WebOps Hosting maintains an agency license for WPCodeBox, so it is available to any of our clients who specifically want it.
It is no longer our default install for new sites. We now pre-install Code Snippets Pro, which covers the use cases most clients actually need. WPCodeBox remains in our toolkit and can be installed on request, on us, for clients who want its specific features.
What WPCodeBox Does Best
WPCodeBox is geared toward developers managing snippets across many sites. Its core differentiators:
- Cloud-based snippet library: snippets sync to a central WPCodeBox cloud account, so the same hook or shortcode you wrote on Site A can be deployed to Site B with one click. Useful if you maintain dozens of WordPress installs and reuse the same fragments
- Advanced code editor: auto-suggestions for WordPress actions, hooks, and core functions; Emmet support for HTML; SCSS compilation; syntax highlighting tuned for WordPress development
- CSS Live Reload: edit a CSS snippet and see the change instantly without a page refresh, similar to a developer's local browser-sync workflow but inside wp-admin
- Manual "Run" mode: execute a snippet once without adding it to the site permanently. Useful for one-off database operations or testing without committing
- Conditional loading: load snippets only on specific pages, post types, user roles, or based on custom conditions
WPCodeBox vs. Code Snippets Pro
Both plugins do roughly the same thing, but their strengths are different.
| Code Snippets Pro (default) | WPCodeBox | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Most clients adding snippets to their site | Developers maintaining many sites with shared code |
| Cloud sync | Local export/import | Built-in cloud library across sites |
| Code editor | Solid syntax highlighting, function suggestions | Heavier IDE-style editor with hook/function autosuggest |
| CSS Live Reload | Not included | Yes |
| SCSS / Emmet | Not included | Yes |
| WooCommerce / EDD support | Yes (Pro feature) | Yes |
| Default on WebOps? | Yes, pre-installed | Available on request |
For straightforward "add a PHP snippet to my site" or "drop a tracking script in the head", Code Snippets Pro is simpler and is what we install by default. For developer workflows that benefit from cloud sync, live reload, or the advanced editor, WPCodeBox is the better fit.
When to Choose WPCodeBox
- You manage multiple WordPress sites and want to reuse the same snippets across all of them
- You write CSS often and benefit from live reload during development
- You want SCSS support inside WordPress without setting up a build pipeline
- You prefer an editor with deeper auto-suggestion for WordPress hooks and functions
If those are your needs, ask us to install WPCodeBox on your site. If they are not, Code Snippets Pro will likely cover what you need without the extra learning curve.
How to Request WPCodeBox
Open a support ticket and let us know you want WPCodeBox. We will install it, activate the agency license, and switch off Code Snippets Pro if you would rather not have both running. There is no extra charge: both licenses are included with your hosting.
